Our company was founded in 1990. We adopted the name Aurora Fine Chemicals Ltd. in 1996. Aurora offers a drug discovery service, compound libraries and custom synthesis for pharmaceutical development and provides expert collaborative research services to the biotech and pharmaceutical industries.
Personnel
Our staff consists of highly qualified individuals with Bsc, Msc and Ph.D. degrees in chemistry, as well as excellent laboratory technicians. They possess many years experience of working in the chemistry of heterocycles, carbohydrates, nucleosides and elemental organic compounds. The Molecular Modelling Group consists of professionals specializing in computational drug design.
The power of the hit-to-lead and lead-to-drug candidate approach cannot be realized without strong synthetic chemistry skills. Aurora has significant expertise in synthesis of all types of small molecules, natural products and peptides in solution and in solid phase. Parallel synthesis with well-designed, targeted, small libraries is the favored approach to lead optimization. Rational design is the strategy for projects driven by structural biology, such as enzyme inhibitors or protein interactions.
Laboratory Equipment
Laboratory for synthesis with modern equipment such as glass reactors (max. 20 L), autoclaves, thermostats (-70° to 350°C) and hydrogenation equipment.
Analysis
Intermediates and final products are analyzed by GC, HPLC, IR, NMR, MS, elemental analysis, atom-absorption analysis and crystallographical methods.
Our Library
We own a large library of 3.7 million stocked compounds for R&D (only a small part of our collection - about 60.000 structures - can be searched directly via our online chemical catalog). Our substances are used in many research labs all over the world. Aurora Fine Chemicals offers structures for biochemical and chemical research. Our products are applied in pharmaceutical development, diagnosis, and in chemical production.
Our Software
The main advantage of Aurora's own software is the quality of the underlying physical models.
The majority of competing approaches use different kinds of fragment based descriptors to calculate the molecular properties from known properties of similar compounds (QSAR). Such models rely heavily on the additivity of molecular properties and are often overparametrized and lack direct physical justification. As a result, the prediction power of the models may be very good for structures similar to those used in the training set and may not be sufficient for absolutely novel compounds.
Aurora's software derives molecular properties from first principles based on direct models using advanced quantum mechanical analysis of molecular interactions and thermodynamics.
